Designing Thought 24: Changing Everyday

Today is New Year’s Eve. The end of a year. People talk about new year’s resolutions. New year’s resolutions are people pretending that changing habits is as easy as a new day or year. All they think they need to do wake up and say “I will do this”. Habits are formed outside of our realm of consciousness. It is formed in what we can only access over a much longer time than any one decision and with any one reason to change. What New Year’s Eve does give us is a chance to try something new and be with people we would not normally meet. Being open to new experiences is where real change happens.
